If you’re planning a wedding surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, heritage homesteads and dramatic skies, it’s no surprise you’re searching for  Macedon Ranges wedding photography. Well hello… you have come to the right place.

Just over an hour from Melbourne, the Macedon Ranges has become one of Victoria’s most sought-after wedding destinations. It offers something rare — luxury without pretension, countryside without compromise, and landscapes that feel cinematic in every season. I am obsessed with this whole area, every corner of Macedon offers something unique, no two venues are the same and Macedon Range extends this huge expanse of Melbourne. I have worked extisvly in and around the Macedon region and just love all the weddings I’ve captured.

For couples who value emotion over perfection and atmosphere over overly posed images, this region is magic.

Below are some of my most loved venues in the area and I have had the pleasure of capturing some beautiful people — and why they’re perfect for truly memorable Macedon Ranges wedding photography.

Paramoor Winery

Perched high above the valley, Paramoor Winery delivers sweeping vineyard views and that elegant European feel couples adore. Sam and Will have created something truly spectacular and warm here. One of the most incredible things is their untapped view at the top of the hill you won’t find this kind of insane space anywhere else! Paramoor Winery, nestled at 550 meters on Mount Macedon, is a hidden jewel. I hadn’t heard of it before, tucked away off the main road, you need to visit this space! Whether you dream of an intimate ceremony, an unforgettable reception or both, our flexible indoor and outdoor spaces offer endless possibilities to create the day you’ve always envisioned.

Why it works so beautifully for Macedon Ranges wedding photography:

  • Elevated views create expansive, romantic backdrops.
  • Vine rows provide natural structure for movement-based portraits.
  • Golden hour here is exceptional — the light wraps softly and creates depth without harsh shadows.

Autumn weddings at Paramoor are particularly breathtaking. The vineyard tones shift to rich reds and amber hues, giving photographs warmth and texture.

If you’re dreaming of refined romance with a relaxed countryside energy, this venue delivers.

Scrub Hill

LGBTQI+ wedding in Macedon Ranges. Macedon ranges wedding photographer. Lesbian wedding in Dayelsford.

Scrub Hill is tucked between Daylesford and Ballarat in Newlyn, Victoria.

On two stunning acres, with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside lies a 19th century blue stone church and a custom-build glass marquee, fitted out with beautiful furnishings. This is a place where they wish to help people to create unique, fun and memorable events with fine attention to detail.  The magical Elm Forest or spacious Pine Forest as an optional ceremony space. Both magical in their own right. These spaces change with the seasons and are a beautiful setting for your ceremony. You feel so free at Scrub Hill, once the sun sets and the lights come on you rather removed from everywhere and can feel the mystical nature of Dayelsford!

Scrub Hill feels wild in the best way. It’s rustic, raw and beautifully open — perfect for couples who don’t want their wedding to feel overly traditional.

For Macedon Ranges wedding photography, this venue offers:

  • Expansive paddocks for dramatic wide shots.
  • Big skies that shift quickly, adding mood and movement.
  • A barn-style reception space that glows beautifully under candlelight.

It’s ideal for modern, alternative couples who want windswept portraits, natural movement and images that feel lived-in rather than styled.

Warrawong Estate

Warrawong Estate blends vineyard elegance with relaxed country charm. With panoramic views of surrounding country side, Warrawong Estate is the perfect setting for a wedding or special event. This privately-owned property spans over 185 acres and offers a beautiful backdrop for any occasion. Whether you’re looking for a country wedding or a sophisticated event, Warrawong Estate’s Woolshed is an Award Winning Venue that is conveniently located just 40 minutes West of the city.

Say “I do” surrounded by the natural beauty of Warrawong Estate and create memories that will last a lifetime.

With rolling hills, a private lake and expansive grounds, it offers incredible variety without needing to leave the property.

From a Macedon Ranges wedding photography perspective, this means:

  • Reflections and soft water light at sunset.
  • Vineyard silhouettes for romantic twilight portraits.
  • Open space for genuine, candid moments to unfold.

It’s perfect for couples wanting timeless romance with a relaxed flow to the day.

Emu Bottom Homestead

One of Victoria’s oldest homesteads, Emu Bottom carries heritage charm and understated elegance.

Think sandstone buildings, historic verandas and glowing paddocks at sunset. Step into history at Emu Bottom Homestead – Victoria’s oldest homestead, nestled at the foot of the Macedon Ranges. Built in 1836, it’s a place where rustic charm meets timeless romance. The expansive lawns of the Homestead are offered for outdoor wedding ceremonies, with multiple locations for you to exchange your vows. In the case of poor weather, the newly reinstated Stables offer couples a charming & intimate indoor ceremony space featuring original bluestone, exposed timber and vaulted ceiling.

Guests will enjoy an hour of pre dinner drinks on The Lawn alongside an abundantly layered Grazing Table, before entering into the heritage listed Homestead for your reception. Enhance your guests experience by incorporating a feature cocktail or station of freshly shucked oysters perhaps?

The indoor and outdoor reception options make it a suitable venue to celebrate your special day all year round.  There is the beautiful Woolshed for a cosy reception with a gorgeous open fireplace. There is an option as well to add in a marquee which is more suitable for summer and spring weddings.

For Macedon Ranges wedding photography, this venue offers:

  • Warm architectural textures that never date.
  • Beautiful natural light through heritage windows.
  • A balance between historic intimacy and expansive countryside.

It’s especially stunning in late afternoon light when the fields turn soft gold and everything feels cinematic.

Witchmount Estate is a place to come together and connect, with beautiful hospitality, a place to create amazing memories with those you love the most, a place you want to be. Witchmount Estate Weddings and Events operates as a completely separate and independent business from the cellar door and winery next door.

The venue has its own dedicated management team, staff, and service standards, allowing them to maintain complete control over every aspect of your event experience. Witchmount Estate brings contemporary luxury to the edge of the Macedon region.

For wedding photography, this venue offers:

  • Clean lines for modern, refined portraits.
  • Vineyard backdrops at golden hour.
  • A reception space that photographs beautifully at night.

It’s ideal for couples who love a polished aesthetic without losing warmth.

DV Cider House Wedding Venue

There are venues that look good on Instagram… and then there are venues that feel good in your bones.

DV Cider House is the second kind. THE FOOD!!! Hands down one of the best meals I’ve had a wedding! I should write a blog on the best food. The slow cooked southern style is heaven!!! YUM!!! I’ve shot 2 very very different weddings here! One was darker, moodier, more alternative and everyone wore black was fabulous! The other was spirtual, filled with joy (well they were both Joyus oh just look a the photos haha)

As someone who works as a Macedon Wedding Photographer I’ve photographed all kinds of celebrations across the region. Vineyard estates. Heritage homesteads. Polished winery venues. But DV Cider House has a different energy.

It’s relaxed without being casual. Stylish without being try-hard. And most importantly — it allows couples to actually be present on their day.

If you’re planning a Macedon Wedding and considering DV Cider House, here’s what you should know — from the perspective of someone behind the lens all day.

Why Choose Macedon Ranges; Wedding Photography?

DV Cider Golden hour photo. Macedon Ranges Wedding photography

The Macedon Ranges isn’t just beautiful — it’s atmospheric, cinematic, and oh the clouds and sunsets haha if you have discovered my instagram @liminalwonderlnad you would’ve seen I’m a little bit of a weather nerd, and I have been booked in the past purely on how I blend weather into weddings. Why might this be important when choosing a photographer? Well the weather plays the largest part of your day, it will consume your life from the moment you decide on a date. I highly recommend looking up historical weather data for your date, it will help you decide whether on not your wedding can be indoors or outdoors.

But what is it about weather on your wedding day…

The weather shifts.
Clouds roll in.
Light changes quickly.

Heat

Cold

Fog

Rain

Storms

That unpredictability is what gives Macedon Ranges wedding photography its depth. Instead of flat, predictable images, you get movement, emotion and texture.

You get:

  • Veils lifting in the breeze.
  • Guests wrapped in blankets under festoon lights.
  • Vineyard rows glowing at sunset.
  • Real laughter echoing across open paddocks.

It feels alive.

Weather in this area will make your day come to life. If it’s cold people will wrap up and snuggle close together.

If it’s hot people will wear beautiful all the colours of the rainbow dresses and stand with parasols and with fans flapping away will make it all feel fabulous.

Fog – Still a moment I am searching to capture! Fog appears in Autumn in Winter in the very early mornings or late at night. If you would love photos please lets make it happen!!!

Rain – No ones wants a hurricane or the wettest day in history but a few showers Ian’t bad, pop up and umbrella, dance in the rain- we’ve all seen the notebook, the most romantic moment ever is always in the rain!

Storms – wild windy and unpredictable. I have stood in storms and as exciting as they are they move fast and can be dangerous. I won’t go outside if the lightning is 10km or closer, too risky. But if it’s down a valley or on the horizon lets chase a lighting bolt!!

I could ramble in all day long about weather all day but here are my wedding photography weather tips:

  1. Lean into – it’s part of your day people remember weather.
  2. Prepare for it – Rain – Umbrellas, wellie boots or gum boots, blankets
  3. Heat – Supply fans and parasols – you can get these so cheaply. If it is over 35 degrees considered bottled water, I have seen people faint mid ceremony and I hate to admit it I have had a family member at t wedding pass away they other conditions but sitting in the sun on 40+ degrees didn’t help.
  4. Wind oh my oh my wind is fabulous and will create a story of it’s own. Wind is funny, wind is romantic.
  5. Just have fun don’t be scared of the weather!

Best Seasons for a Macedon Ranges Wedding

Each season offers something unique for wedding photography:

Autumn – Deep vineyard colours and crisp air.
Winter – Moody skies and intimate candlelit receptions.
Spring – Fresh green hills and blossoming gardens.
Summer – Long golden evenings and relaxed celebrations outdoors.

There isn’t a “perfect” season — just different moods to embrace. Choose a season that you want not because that’s when everyone else gets married
